TikTok starts the next video before you decide whether to stay. That makes it easy for a quick check to become an hour, especially at night or in the gaps between other tasks.
Your iPhone can limit the app, block it on a schedule, or close the browser workaround. Aura is for a different rule: TikTok opens after you earn the time, not before.
Put a daily limit on TikTok
An App Limit gives TikTok a fixed daily allowance. It is the quickest setup, but an ordinary limit can still be extended when it appears. A Screen Time passcode held by someone you trust makes that choice less immediate.
- 1
Open Settings and tap Screen Time.
- 2
Turn on App & Website Activity if needed.
- 3
Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.
- 4
Open Entertainment or Social and select TikTok.
- 5
Set the daily time and use Customize Days if weekends need a different allowance.
- 6
Tap Add.
Keep TikTok out of bedtime
Downtime is better than a daily cap when the problem happens during the same hours. Schedule it before bed, during work, or through the first part of the morning.
- 1
Go to Settings, Screen Time, then Downtime.
- 2
Turn on Scheduled and set the protected hours.
- 3
Turn on Block at Downtime.
- 4
Check Always Allowed and make sure TikTok is not included.
- 5
Leave calls, messages, maps, and other essentials available.
Delete TikTok and block reinstalling it
Deleting TikTok creates distance without deleting your account. If you tend to reinstall it the same day, Screen Time can stop all new app installations for a while. Remember to turn the setting back on when you need to download something else.
- 1
Delete TikTok from your iPhone.
- 2
Open Settings, Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- 3
Turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- 4
Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.
- 5
Set Installing Apps to Don't Allow.
Block tiktok.com too
The website can replace the app after you delete it. Add tiktok.com to Screen Time's Never Allow list if Safari becomes the new way in. The restriction applies across browsers on the iPhone.
- 1
Open Settings, Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- 2
Tap App Store, Media, Web & Games, then Web Content.
- 3
Choose Limit Adult Websites.
- 4
Add tiktok.com under Never Allow.
Earn TikTok time with Aura
Aura keeps TikTok locked until you complete a habit. Reading, exercise, focused work, and Apple Health activity can earn Aura coins. One coin buys one minute of access.
The block happens before the feed has your attention. When the earned minutes are gone, TikTok locks again instead of asking whether you want to keep scrolling.
- Choose TikTok as a blocked app.
- Complete a habit that fits the day.
- Collect the coins you earned.
- Spend the minutes, then leave TikTok locked.
Use the boundary that fits the problem
Choose a daily limit for overall use and Downtime for predictable trouble hours. Delete TikTok and block the website when you want a clean reset. Use Aura when you still want the app but do not want it available by default.
Do not make the rule stricter than you can keep. The goal is to stop the sessions you regret, not to build a setup you dismantle tomorrow.
Common questions
Can I block TikTok at night only?
Yes. Schedule Downtime for the hours you want protected, turn on Block at Downtime, and make sure TikTok is not in Always Allowed.
Will TikTok still work in Safari?
It can unless you also restrict tiktok.com. Add the site to Screen Time's Never Allow list under Web Content if the browser becomes the workaround.
Does deleting TikTok delete my account?
No. Removing the app from your iPhone does not delete your account, followers, or posted videos. Drafts are stored on the device and may be lost when the app is removed, so save anything important first.
Is Aura available on Android?
Not yet. Aura currently relies on Apple's Screen Time controls, so it is iPhone only.
Apple changes Screen Time labels from time to time. If a menu looks different on your iPhone, see Apple's current Screen Time guide and content restriction guide.
