Reddit often starts with a useful search and ends on the home feed. Because every community looks different, the next post can keep feeling worth one more scroll.
You can limit the app, protect specific hours, or block reddit.com as well. Aura gives you another option when you still want access: complete a habit, earn minutes, and use Reddit within the time you bought.
Set a daily Reddit limit
An App Limit works when the problem is total time rather than a specific hour. It covers the whole Reddit app, including search, messages, saved posts, and every subreddit.
- 1
Open Settings and tap Screen Time.
- 2
Turn on App & Website Activity if needed.
- 3
Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.
- 4
Open Social or Information & Reading and select Reddit.
- 5
Choose the daily allowance and adjust individual days if needed.
- 6
Tap Add.
Use Downtime for late-night Reddit
Downtime is a better fit when Reddit mostly takes over in bed, during work, or first thing in the morning. You can keep essential apps available while Reddit stays blocked.
- 1
Go to Settings, Screen Time, then Downtime.
- 2
Turn on Scheduled and choose the protected hours.
- 3
Turn on Block at Downtime.
- 4
Open Always Allowed and make sure Reddit is not included.
- 5
Keep calls, messages, maps, and any other essentials available.
Block reddit.com in every browser
An App Limit does not stop reddit.com from opening in Safari. Add the site to Screen Time's Never Allow list if browser links become the new feed. This blocks Reddit pages across browsers, including useful search results.
- 1
Open Settings, Screen Time, then Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- 2
Tap App Store, Media, Web & Games, then Web Content.
- 3
Choose Limit Adult Websites.
- 4
Add reddit.com under Never Allow.
Earn Reddit time with Aura
Aura keeps Reddit locked until you complete a habit. Reading, exercise, focused work, and Apple Health activity earn Aura coins, and one coin buys one minute of access.
That gives a Reddit session an endpoint. Search for the answer, check the communities you care about, and let the app lock again when the earned time is gone.
- Select Reddit as a blocked app.
- Complete a habit before opening the feed.
- Spend the minutes you want to use.
- Let Reddit lock when the session ends.
Make Reddit less noisy
Turn off recommendations, trending alerts, and notifications from communities you rarely visit. Keep replies or direct messages only if you use them.
If Reddit is useful for answers, save a few trusted communities and open them directly during a planned session. The front page does not need to be the entrance to every search.
Common questions
Can I block the Reddit app but still open links from Google?
Yes. An App Limit blocks the app, not reddit.com. Add the website to Screen Time's Never Allow list only if browser links become a workaround.
Can Screen Time block certain subreddits?
No. Screen Time limits the whole Reddit app. Its web controls restrict domains rather than individual communities.
Will deleting Reddit delete my account?
No. Removing the iPhone app does not delete your account, posts, comments, saved items, or community memberships.
Can Aura block only Reddit?
Yes. Aura blocks the apps you choose. Everything outside that list remains available.
Apple changes Screen Time labels from time to time. If a menu looks different on your iPhone, see Apple's current Screen Time guide and content restriction guide.
